Photograph by Takashi Zenihiro, National Geographic Your Shot
Photographer Takashi Zenihiro, a National Geographic Your Shot community member, submitted this photo of an expanse of fireflies streaming through a forest in Ninohe in the Iwate Prefecture, Japan. Firefly viewing season is cause to celebrate in this area, as the glowing insects herald the beginning of summer. Zenihiro wanted to observe the spectacle in person, and with the camera set at only 50 centimeters (20 inches) from the ground was able to create a sense of “being in the vortex of light.”
